In this context hundreds of cities are developing into Learning Cities. A Learning City –LC-is considered to be any city, town or village which strives to learn how to renew itself in a time of extraordinary global change by recognizing, valuing and investing in individual and social learning. More than that, a transformation into learning cities is only possible if the transformative learning of individuals and groups is systematically fostered.
The realisation of lifelong learning requires the participation of four distinct groups: the community, education and training providers, businesses and local government. Using lifelong learning (LLL) as an organising principle and social goal, Learning Cities promote collaboration of the civic, private, voluntary and education sectors, enabling every person to participate and contribute to their community and society. Thus, these local communities have to address global, social, economic and technological change by facilitating “learning for all” as a means of building their local community`s capacity. Through this collaborative effort, Learning Cities will develop not only resilience and adaptability to change, but will enhance their capacity for sustainability and competitiveness.
The main objective of L4City is to stimulate project partners to develop greater knowledge, experience and practice in helping themselves and each other to understand the nature of Learning Cities and their own role in supporting their development. The interaction between partners will be at different levels, engaging a variety of stakeholders in collaborative partnership activities.
Activities:
– 5 events (workshops, meetings), at least one in each country. In these events partners will focus on practical issues of learning, on how to start a process or build a structural model relevant to their community.
– Desk research: a country/region/city report, providing a national/local context and examples of good practices.
– Dissemination of results and discussion will be facilitated in the form of a website and social media channels.
