citiZENs project bases on some lacks perceived by several European professionals, specialised in the fields of inclusion, training and equal opportunities. Those lacks are seen as a consequence of the natural growth and development of cities. Cities (independently from their size), are characterised for their public spaces where socialization, relationships building, cultural exchange and visible and invisible learning happens all the time. However, the use of these spaces is highly dependant on the resources, knowledge and attitudes of key agents, such as the public authorities, the civil society organisations and the own citizens, that should be aware, understand and promote participative and inclusive use of these spaces to create urban learning spaces.
The main objectives of the project are:
– To analyse how public spaces are used in participating countries, from the point of view of the promotion of active citizenship, communication, cultural and learning opportunities.
– To identify good practices in the use of public spaces as cultural and learning envirnoments.
– To detect, for each of the identified working areas (interculturality, intergenerational activities, artistic expression, violence prevention, healthy habits, environmental care and sustainability, volunteering, childhood and youth, public bodies and civil socity organisations role), examples that favour their development in public spaces.
– To promote citizens participation in the planning, organization and use of public spaces and values linked to equality, socio-cultural integration and responsible citizenship.
